Leading public sector hydropower giant SJVN Limited organised a “Declamation Contest” here today in which Chandrika, a B.Sc. (Nursing), 2nd year student, won the first prize a carrying a cash reward of Rs 11,000. The Chief Guest, Vijay Prasad, Additional General Manager, SJVN, said that the contest was part of the twin efforts of his organisation to promote our national language Hindi and create awareness about energy and environment conservation. He further added that “SJVN had so far organised declamation contests in 20 schools and colleges. It was also providing scholarships to deserving and needy students to fulfil its corporate social responsibility”.
The Second Prize of Rs 8000 was bagged by Mamta Sharma, B.Sc (Nursing), 4th year student, while the Third Prize of Rs 5000 was won by Ronika of B.Sc ( Nursing ) 2nd year. Two consolation prizes of Rs 3000 each were won by Nisha and Rita, both of GNM 1st year.
Deputy Manager, SJVN, Mridula Srivastava, said that such contests encouraged the youth to learn our national language seriously, besides improving their knowledge about environment related issue.
Dr Shama Lohumi, Principal Shivalik Nursing Institute, said that environmentally sustainable development can be achieved only by making judicious use of natural resources. The human beings had to accept that they did not have exclusive right over the natural resources which belonged to all the living beings. She added that the nursing students could play an important role in creating environment awareness as they interacted with the community in field.
As a token of appreciation and warm greeting the management of the institute presented potted flower plants to the chief guest and other dignitaries instead cut flower bouquets to show commitment to environment conservation.
