CM Approves Rs. 460 Cr for Kangra Airport Upgrade

During a review of ongoing tourism projects, CM Sukhu stated that Rs. 460 crore has been disbursed to beneficiaries for land acquisition for the expansion of Kangra airport, with an additional Rs. 1,899 crore ready for release.

Emphasizing the strategic importance of the airport expansion, the CM noted it would boost the economy of Kangra and surrounding districts, enhance tourism, create employment opportunities, and attract high-end tourists.

The CM also reviewed the progress of heliport projects across the state. Operational authorization has been received for Sanjauli and Rampur Bushair heliports, with operations expected to begin soon after formalities are completed. Construction of heliports at Kagnidhdar (Mandi), Rakkar and Palampur (Kangra), Sultanpur (Kullu), Reckongpeo (Kinnaur), and Jaskot (Hamirpur) is underway, with completion targeted for next year to improve air connectivity and tourism access.

In addition, CM Sukhu instructed authorities to expedite work on the Auhar tourist complex in Bilaspur, currently 46% complete, and to accelerate projects funded by the Asian Development Bank, underlining the government’s commitment to promoting tourism as a key driver of the state economy.
