Colours of Shimla Summers Come Alive during Flower Arrangement Competition in Dayanand Public School

There is a famous saying by Ralph Waldo Emerson “The Earth laughs in flowers”. It was clearly visible during the Inter House Flower Arrangement Competition which took place in Dayanand Public School, Shimla here today, when the entire hall was filled with fragrance and beauty of the vibrant flowers. The theme of the flower arrangement was ‘Colours of Shimla Summers’. The judges for the event were Principal and DAV Regional Director, Zone II, Shashi Kiran and the Co-ordinator, Anupama. Six Houses — Laxmi Bai, Nehru, Tagore, Bhagat Singh, Shivaji and Vivekanand — were competing for the trophy. There was a lot of enthusiasm among the students. Each and every participant tried to put in their best in order to win the trophy for their respective Houses.

The creative themes that the six houses came up with were:
‘Peace of Shimla’ by Bhagat Singh House;
‘Petals of Velvet Wonder’ by Vivekanand House;
‘Happiness Held is Seed, Happiness Shared is a Flower’ by Tagore House;
‘Colours of Shimla’ by Shivaji House;
‘Crown of Hills’ by Laxm Bai House; and
‘Blissful blossoms’ by Nehru House.

Kajol from Bhagat Singh House said, “We have used more of white flowers as the theme of our arrangement is ‘Peace in Shimla’ and no other colour symbolises peace better than white”. Varsha Verma of Luxmi Bai House said, “We have been practicing for the flower arrangement competition since last three days. We used to get together in my house and pluck flowers from the nearby garden and tried putting them all together in unique and different ways”. Vivekanand House participant Devanshi expressed her creativity by saying that “Our theme is ‘petals of velvet wonder’, we have picked all soft and subtle flowers for our arrangement”.

Students who represented the six houses were: Laxmi Bai House – Krirtika Verma, Gaudharv Mehta and Varsha Verma; Nehru House – Mahima Rana, Naveta Sood and Aarti Dhiman; Tagore House – Ayushi, Aprajita and Aishwarya; Vivekanad House – Devanshi, Ravishta and Amartya; Shivaji House – Parul, Yashkirti Garg and Amanpreet Kaur; Bhagat Singh House – Aparna Chakroborty, Kajol and Arushi Sharma.

Principal Kiran highlighted the objective of the event and said, “India is a country with multi-faceted traditions and culture. There is also a vast diversity in these traditions. To continue in an endeavour to familiarize the students with the richness of India’s heritage and culture Flower Arrangement Competition is held every year in the school. It gives the students a sense of creativity and appreciation towards nature. The winners of the competition will be chosen for Zonal competition”. She further added that the winners will also participate in the upcoming Summer Festival Sages Flower Show.
