Neha Bags Student of the Year Title — St Thomas School Annual Day

Senior students of St Thomas School gave some very thrilling and exciting performances during their Annual Day Function held here today as Lt General BS Sachar, SM, Chief of Staff, HQ ARTRAC, Shimla, presided over the function as the Chief Guest. The programme began with the welcome dance ‘Abhinandan’, followed by the lighting of lamp and a warm welcome by School Principal Vidhupriya Chakarvarty as she greeted Mrs and Mr Sachar with a bouquet. Thereafter, the Principal welcomed all the guests and read the school report, outlining the achievements of the students and the school over this past year.

Principal Chakarvarty said, “On this momentous occasion it is my honour to inform you that St Thomas School provides sound education to every student who joins the school in an atmosphere of love and service to all regardless of caste, creed or distinction of any kind in order to develop enlightened and responsible citizens of India. The school prepares children for Central Board Exams and we are committed to helping every student reach his or her full potential to excel throughout their school experience and adequately prepare them for life beyond school doors. We are proud that our children successfully take admissions in reputed technical, engineering and medical colleges”.

She added that right from the entry level of the school, children are encouraged to participate in various sports activities. She then further elaborated about the feats of the students as well as the active participation by her faculty members at various levels. She said, “The school is engaged in an outreach programme “Nishta” for educating less privileged children specially the girl child. The school pays special care towards children who are dyslexic and slow learners”. She concluded on a note of gratitude by expressing heartfelt gratefulness towards the management, faculty, and students for their consistent diligence, sincerity and devotion with which they continue to preserve zealously in achieving excellence in all aspects of learning at school.

The School Choir then stepped onto the stage and melodiously sung the song “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace”, followed by a very educative and informative play titled “You are the Light”. The audience was informed about the vices of drinking and how it ruined the lives of the three actors, and finally how their lives are reformed and they start engaging in social activities and helping people. The colours of Himachal were brought to life with a lively Naati. Next was a soulful song by the students “Ghar Jaane De (Darbari Kanada) Bandish’, followed by songs by the school Band, wherein Shubhan Negi, Shubham Verma, Shubham Sharma, Virender Singh, Simran and Priya gave some amazing performances. Each and every item was totally mesmerizing as the guests witnessed this spectacle. The finale song was yet another treat for the eyes as the girls danced on a Sufi number ‘Aalam Aalam’, thus finishing to a loud applause and appreciations from all around.

It was then time for the much awaited prize distribution as the chief guest and the principal stepped on the stage. Students from Classes VIII up to XII were awarded general proficiency prizes. Chief Guest Lt General Sachar congratulated all the winners and encouraged them to perform better in all their future endevours. As an alma mater of the school he said, “I am quite impressed to see such brilliant performances given today and the remarkable changes that have taken place in the school over a period of time. To excel in life there are no short cuts, as it is only through hard work, discipline and perseverance that anything can be achieved. For me Army is not a career but a way of life”. He further elaborated on the importance of being in the army and that students should understand the hardships and sacrifices made by the soldiers and the admiration and respect they receive, through a couple of video clips.
