The organizers of the All India Artists Association presented a grand showcase of young talent and gifted art as more than 70 performances of dance and drama acts by various groups from all over India took place over the four days at Kali Bari Hall, Shimla. During these four days, various solo songs, dance acts, and dramas were performed by the participants. Organizer Anjam Gulati informed that this competition is held every year especially to promote and encourage young talent. Doyens from theatre world present were Dr Pramanit, Shri R C Sharma, Shri Narayan Dwalani and Mr Tandon. They presented mementoes and certificates to all the winners in various categories, after two very entertaining performances.
First, was the drama group from Mumbai, Jawahar Lal Nehru Port Trust, led by Prashant Bhagat, who presented a repeat performance of the play “The Blindfold” after it received rave reviews and admiration from the audience and the judges alike ! Nitin Patil, plays a difficult role of a father taking care of his two teenage daughters, Anusha and Kittu, played by Shalaka and Nikita and, after his wife expires. The play is about how teenagers are misled by use of the new technology, who stop taking advice from parents or sharing life decisions with them. Anusha is shown in a dilemma as to how to cope with the truth she has to face with and the support and care shown by her father to deal with the situation. Both Shalaka and Nitin bagged the best actress and best actor awards for their performances. The Blindfold also received the award in the best play and best script categories.
Second, was the outstanding dance performance by 10 year old Rimcha Amber, from the Nrityathi, Bhilai group who mesmerized the audience with her dancing skills. She danced on a melody of ghazals, with impeccable moves and artistic expressions. After the performance Amber said, “I have been dancing since the age of three and I love performing. I also have a keen interest in Karate”.
Among many other groups present on the final day was Rajat Deep, president of the Mayur Pankhi Creation group, with his team members Naina Jolly, Neeraj Swami, Prashant Bharti, Shivam Singh, Manav Bansal and Raj Kiran who performed a satire play titled “Singhasan Khaali hai” by Sushil Kumar Singh. Both Neeraj and Manav received consolation prizes for their acting skills. Naina Jolly, the secretary of the group is also an upcoming actress from Meerut and will be seen in the Maazii.
To name a few groups participating in the folk dance category were Utkal Sangeet Smaj, Cuttak; Kala Vikas Kendra, Bilaspur; Nupur Kathak Kendra, Bhilai; Guru Kanhaiya Nritya Kala Kendra, Chandigarh; Nrityathi, Bhilai; North East Vision, Guhaati; Dhara Arts Entertainment, Baroda; Kala Kunj, Bhilai; Nurpur Dance Academy, Baroda; and Masth katak Group, Bhilai.
In the drama section groups namely, Flame Culture Welfare Society, Shimla; Secretariat Sports Club, Patna; Rangshree, Patna; Third Bell Theatre, Surat; Mayur Pankhi Creation, Meerut; Aarambh Arts Academy, Ahemdabad; JNPT Sports Council, Navi Mumbai; Aaj, Jamshedpur; Abhinav, Allahbad; Gujarat Arts & Science College, Ahemdabad; Ekta Arts, Meerut; Rangshree, Patna, among others participated during the cultural event.
