CM Meets FM Sitharaman, Seeks Hike in Apple Import Duty and Borrowing Limit

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi to advocate for key fiscal measures crucial to Himachal Pradesh’s economy. During the meeting, CM Sukhu emphasized the need for a universal hike in import duties on apples, citing the adverse impact of imports from countries like Turkey on local apple growers.

Highlighting the financial challenges faced by special category states, he also urged the Centre to increase the borrowing limit for Himachal Pradesh by at least two percent. The Chief Minister outlined the state government’s efforts to strengthen fiscal management and boost revenue generation despite existing financial pressures.

Accompanying the CM at the meeting were Principal Advisor Ram Subhag Singh, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, and Principal Secretary (Finance) Devesh Kumar.
