In a significant move towards environmental sustainability, the State Government has approved the Mukhya Mantri Green Adoption Yojna, a pioneering scheme designed to enhance forest cover through a unique partnership between the private sector and local communities. Announced by Chief Minister in his 2025–26 budget speech, the scheme underlines the government’s commitment to ecological restoration and climate resilience.

The scheme invites private companies to contribute under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments by funding the ecological revival of degraded forest lands. A five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between the Forest Department and private entities, covering all aspects such as plantation costs, maintenance, soil and moisture conservation, fencing, and technical guidance.

A government spokesperson highlighted that the initiative aims not only to increase the actual forest area but also to promote sustainable forest management, improve biodiversity, and fortify the state’s resilience to climate change. A notable feature of the program is the integration of local communities, offering employment in site preparation, planting, maintenance, and forest protection roles. Institutions like Mahila Mandals, Yuvak Mandals, Self Help Groups, and Panchayat representatives will be actively involved to ensure long-term care and ownership.

To ensure transparency and encourage participation, a dedicated section on the Forest Department’s website will list available degraded sites and offer detailed information about the scheme. The initiative is expected to improve air quality, support ecosystems, and give companies a structured way to fulfill their CSR goals—gaining them recognition as ‘Green Partners’ in the state’s sustainable future.
