Chief Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to making Himachal Pradesh a leader in green energy and reaffirmed the continuation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), while addressing the closing ceremony of the 32nd Himachal Pradesh State Level Children’s Science Congress at Government College Dhaliara in Kangra.

The CM felicitated winners of various competitions—Science Quiz, Mathematical Olympiad, Innovative Science Model, Essay and Slogan Writing—recognizing the participation of around 600 students and teachers from 12 districts. Despite the Centre discontinuing ₹2 crore in funding for the Science Congress, he assured that the State Government would ensure continued support for such initiatives.

Emphasizing environmental sustainability, the Chief Minister stated that Himachal aims to become a green energy state by March 31, 2026. Efforts are underway to introduce 350 new electric buses and eventually replace the entire HRTC fleet with electric vehicles. The state also plans to lead in green hydrogen production.

On governance, Sukhu criticized the previous BJP administration for financially irresponsible decisions such as last-minute freebies and unutilized infrastructure. In contrast, his government has generated ₹3,000 crore in additional revenue over two years by implementing fiscal discipline.

He highlighted steps to revamp the education sector, announcing the implementation of the CBSE pattern in 100 government schools by next year and the phased introduction of Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools across all constituencies. The recruitment of 967 TGT/PGT teachers and 1,000 JBTs is also underway to address staff shortages.

Reasserting the government’s stand on employee welfare, the CM stated that despite pressure from the Central Government to adopt the New Pension Scheme (NPS), Himachal would not roll back OPS, which now benefits over 1.36 lakh employees.

Member Secretary of HIMCOSTE, D.C. Rana, welcomed the Chief Minister and briefed him on the council’s ongoing initiatives in promoting science and innovation among youth.
