HP Governor Shukla inaugurated the Meritorious Student Felicitation Programme, a two-day event organized by the Himachal Shiksha Samiti at Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Shimla. The ceremony honored 154 meritorious students from 48 schools across the state, recognizing their academic achievements in Classes 10 and 12 of the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education.
During the event, the Governor felicitated both present and past students for their excellence, stating that the recognition is a symbol of hard work, discipline, and self-confidence. He emphasized that education is not just about academics, but also about values, culture, humility, and service to society.
“The nation needs a generation that rises not just for themselves but uplifts the society along,” said Governor Shukla. “Success is meaningful only when it carries the spirit of service.”
He encouraged students to view education as a tool for nation-building and urged them to think beyond personal ambition to include community and cultural responsibilities.
The Governor appreciated the efforts of Vidya Bharati, which operates 190 Saraswati Vidya Mandirs in Himachal, including in remote areas like Killar and Dodra Kwar, serving over 26,000 students with the help of 2,000 dedicated teachers. He lauded their role in imparting value-based education and highlighted their contribution to safeguarding children from negative societal influences, particularly drug abuse.
The Governor also visited a student exhibition, taking interest in the creative models and innovations presented by students.
Deshraj Sharma, All India General Secretary of Vidya Bharati, reiterated the organization’s commitment to education rooted in Indian culture and alignment with the National Education Policy. He noted that many Vidya Bharati alumni are serving in prestigious roles across the country.
Mohan Kesta, President of Himachal Shiksha Samiti, welcomed the Governor and presented the programme’s objectives. Other dignitaries present included Vijay Nadda, Regional Organizing Secretary of Vidya Bharati, and Suresh Kapil, General Secretary of Himachal Shiksha Samiti.
