Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri today informed that the Jal Shakti Department has successfully restored 98% of water supply schemes that were damaged during the recent spell of heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh. A total of 12,007 water supply schemes have been temporarily restored, out of the 12,281 that were affected, he said.
The Deputy CM lauded the relentless efforts of the department’s officers and staff, who worked under extremely challenging conditions to resume water supply services and ensure relief for affected residents across the state.
Giving further details, Agnihotri said the total estimated loss to the water supply infrastructure was approximately ₹925.85 crore. He added that 2,624 irrigation schemes were also impacted by the disaster, incurring damages worth ₹244.19 crore.
In addition to this, 115 flood protection works were damaged (₹55.81 crore), 183 sewerage schemes suffered losses of ₹64.33 crore, and 391 hand pumps were affected, causing damages of around ₹1.20 crore. In total, 15,594 schemes were hit by the disaster, with a cumulative estimated loss of ₹1,291.37 crore.
He reassured the public that restoration of water supply and sewerage infrastructure is among the government’s top priorities, and emphasized that all affected schemes would be restored permanently in a time-bound manner. The government remains fully committed to ensuring the availability of basic amenities, even in the face of natural adversities, he added.
