Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla emphasized the vital role of traditional fairs and festivals in strengthening the rural economy and preserving cultural heritage. He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the three-day district-level Sair Fair held at Jukhala in Bilaspur district.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that such fairs are not only instrumental in showcasing folk art, crafts, and traditions, but also provide a strong platform for economic activity in rural areas. He described them as an integral part of Himachal’s social fabric, helping to connect the younger generation with their roots and fostering social harmony.

Governor Shukla appreciated the cultural performances by women’s groups, stating that with consistent support and encouragement, these groups could present high-quality cultural programs at minimal costs. Their active participation, he added, would breathe new life into local traditions and ensure the preservation of folk culture.

Highlighting the fair’s economic importance, he said events like the Sair Fair give villagers the opportunity to sell local products, handicrafts, and traditional foods, thereby contributing to livelihood generation. To enhance the utility of such fairs, he instructed the district administration to set up information stalls related to agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, and banking services, ensuring that people are made aware of government schemes and financial services.

Referring to the contribution of the Indian Armed Forces, the Governor praised their role in national security, citing ‘Operation Sindoor’ as a recent example of India’s resolve to eliminate terrorism. He urged citizens to participate in constructive politics and offer meaningful suggestions to aid development. He also called upon government officials to perform their duties with sincerity, highlighting their key role in policy implementation and public service.

To promote women’s participation in cultural events, Governor Shukla directed the Deputy Commissioner of Bilaspur to provide ₹1 lakh through the Sair Fair Committee to women’s folk groups, so they could participate in national and international-level fairs.

On the occasion, the Governor also honored participants of various cultural and sports activities held during the fair and visited departmental exhibitions showcasing developmental schemes.

The event was hosted by Chairman of the Mela Committee, Rajesh Thakur, who welcomed the Governor and provided a detailed overview of the fair. Among those present were MLA Randhir Sharma, Patron of the Mela Committee Daulat Ram Thakur, Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar, Superintendent of Police Sandeep Dhawal, and other local dignitaries.
