CM Sukhu today reviewed the functioning of the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) and directed officials to accelerate the execution of ongoing hydro and solar power projects across the state.
Reviewing the 450 MW Shong Tong Hydroelectric Power Project, the Chief Minister instructed that the project be completed by December 2026, noting that over 60 percent of the work has already been finished. He also emphasized the need to establish the transmission line in parallel to ensure timely evacuation of generated power.
The Chief Minister assessed the progress of several other major projects, including 130 MW Kashang-II and III, 48 MW Chanju-III, 40 MW Renuka Dam, and 191 MW Thana Plaun Hydroelectric Projects, and directed that their timelines be strictly adhered to.
Stressing the importance of pump storage projects for meeting peak-hour electricity demand and easing pressure on the grid, Sukhu asked HPPCL to begin work on the proposed 1630 MW Renukaji and 270 MW Thana Plaun pump storage projects at the earliest.
He reiterated that harnessing green energy remains a top priority for the State Government and directed HPPCL to speed up ongoing solar projects and identify new land parcels for future installations across Himachal Pradesh.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of the 1 MW Green Hydrogen Plant at Nalagarh, instructing that it be completed by June 2026. Calling for greater professionalism and efficiency, he said that the government is committed to making Himachal Pradesh the Green Energy State of the country by next year.
