Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has praised ex-servicemen for their invaluable contributions to nation-building, both during their service and after retirement, highlighting that their discipline, leadership, and spirit of service serve as a source of inspiration for younger generations.

Addressing the Army Day and annual function organized by the Ex-Servicemen League and Sarv Kalyankari Trust at Sujanpur in Hamirpur district, the Governor said that 15th January reminds the nation of the Indian Army’s courage, patriotism, and dedication. He emphasized that the Army is not just a military force but the guardian of India’s unity, integrity, and sovereignty. Soldiers serving in challenging terrains and harsh conditions uphold national pride, and their sacrifices inspire generations.

The Governor lauded organizations like the Ex-Servicemen League for bridging veterans’ experiences with society and appreciated the Sarv Kalyankari Trust for its social service initiatives, including free medical camps, healthcare in remote areas, women empowerment, and disaster relief. He said that Army Day programmes honoring soldiers, veterans, martyrs’ families, and Veer Naris strengthen national gratitude.

Shukla also highlighted welfare measures for soldiers and their families, including One Rank One Pension, the National War Memorial, simplified defence pensions, healthcare services for veterans, and schemes for Veer Naris, crediting the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for these historic steps. Emphasizing the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, he noted that increased indigenization in defence strengthens the Armed Forces while generating new opportunities for youth. He called upon young people to draw inspiration from soldiers’ discipline, dedication, and patriotism, stating that service to the nation can be rendered through the Armed Forces, social work, or performing duties with integrity.

Earlier, the Governor took the salute at a march-past presented by eight contingents of ex-servicemen from the district. The event also featured cultural performances by artists from Rajasthan.

On the occasion, the Governor presented the “Shan-e-Himachal” and “Shan-e-Hind” awards to individuals for outstanding service. Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh of Mewar, and Lieutenant General (Retired) B.S. Jaswal also addressed the gathering. President of the Sarv Kalyankari Trust Abhishek Rana welcomed the Governor and briefed him about the organization’s activities.
