CM Orders Swift Restoration of Essential Services in Snowbound Himachal Areas

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday issued comprehensive directions to State Government officers to ensure the early restoration of normalcy in various parts of Himachal Pradesh affected by heavy snowfall. Stressing the urgency of the situation, the Chief Minister directed officials to work on a war footing to restore essential services disrupted due to adverse weather conditions.

He instructed that roads leading to hospitals and emergency service institutions be cleared on a priority basis to ensure uninterrupted access to healthcare. To minimise inconvenience to the public, the Chief Minister directed the deployment of adequate manpower and heavy machinery for the speedy reopening of blocked road networks across snowbound regions.

Focus on Power, Water and Essential Supplies
The Chief Minister also ordered the swift restoration of power and water supply schemes in affected areas. He asked district administrations to remain on high alert and provide immediate assistance wherever required. The Department of Food and Civil Supplies, along with the State Civil Supplies Corporation, has been directed to take proactive steps to ensure the uninterrupted availability of foodgrains and essential commodities in snowbound areas.

Emphasising safety, Sh. Sukhu instructed all departments to strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority and ensure their effective implementation on the ground.

Relief for Farmers, Boost to Tourism
While acknowledging the challenges posed by heavy snowfall, the Chief Minister noted that the rain and snow have brought much-needed relief to farmers and orchardists, offering a positive boost to the rural economy. He also welcomed tourists to the State, stating that fresh snowfall is expected to revitalise tourism-related activities in the coming days.

Climate Change Concerns Highlighted
Addressing long-term environmental concerns, the Chief Minister remarked on the continuing impact of climate change on the State. He informed that officials have been directed to undertake in-depth studies on climate change so that necessary environmental conservation measures can be integrated into future policies and development programmes, ensuring sustainable growth for Himachal Pradesh.
