January 27 is observed as the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust. This United Nations-designated day honors the millions of people, primarily Jews, who were murdered during the Holocaust in World War II. The date marks the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in 1945 by Soviet forces, one of the largest Nazi death camps. It serves as a global occasion to remember the victims, educate future generations, and promote human rights, ensuring that the horrors of the Holocaust are never forgotten and that intolerance and hatred are actively challenged.
