The historic Gaiety Theatre rang with music, movement and youthful verve on 19 May as Bishop Cotton School and Auckland House School for Girls presented a spirited joint staging of the internationally acclaimed musical Fame. The student-led production celebrated the ambition, grit and creative energy of young performers and offered Shimla audiences an evening of polished theatre, lively choreography and strong ensemble work.

Directed and choreographed with evident care, the show captured the familiar story of aspiring performers chasing their dreams in the competitive world of performing arts. Months of rehearsals and inter‑school collaboration were apparent in the production’s sharp transitions, tightened pacing and thoughtful edits to script and dialogue, all of which heightened dramatic impact and ensured scenes flowed seamlessly.
The production’s greatest strength lay in its adaptable, confident cast. Shifting between different stage setups, first performance was in Auckland House School, second was in Bishop Cottons School and third at Gaiety. Responding to the demands of live staging, the students displayed notable discipline and theatrical maturity. The dance troupe provided an exuberant visual spectacle, while the live band and choir added warmth and immediacy to the musical numbers.
Particular commendation goes to Saarsanth as Leroy Johnson, Rushan Kakkar as Ralph and Mohenish as Mr Henderson delivered strong stage presence and expertly timed sequences that drew enthusiastic applause. Pritha Doegar (Doris Finsecker), Anika Jain (Hilary Watson), Shourya Sood (Bruno Martelli), Abhivibha Bhardwaj (Coco Hernandez), Stavya (Montgomery MacNeil), Melina (Lisa Monroe) and Rehan Pansari (Narrator) each performed with poise and contributed to the production’s narrative momentum. The ensemble work reinforced the show’s central themes of passion, perseverance and camaraderie.
The heads of both schools praised the students for months of dedication, noting how such theatrical opportunities foster confidence, creativity, responsibility and teamwork. The performance drew an appreciative audience of theatre lovers, parents, alumni and local community members, underlining the enduring cultural significance of performing arts in Shimla.

This joint production of Fame was a triumph of youthful energy and collaborative spirit. With refined execution, standout individual performances and a committed ensemble, Bishop Cotton School and Auckland House School for Girls presented an engaging and memorable evening at The Gaiety. The show not only entertained but also affirmed the value of theatre as a formative, community‑building experience for young artists.
