CM Sukhu on Tuesday paid tributes to Veer Shiromani Maharana Pratap, describing him as an enduring symbol of courage, self-respect, freedom and patriotism. He announced ₹1 crore for the construction of an indoor stadium at Maharana Pratap International Public School, Pathiar, and honoured meritorious students during a function marking the 487th birth anniversary of the legendary ruler at Dharamgiri Pathiar in Kangra district.
Addressing the gathering, Sukhu said Maharana Pratap’s life and the Battle of Haldighati continue to inspire generations with lessons of bravery, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to honour and freedom. He called upon the youth to imbibe the values of discipline, sacrifice and national service while contributing to social harmony and nation-building.
The Chief Minister said the state government was working towards making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant and economically strong through reforms in education, rural development, skill enhancement and environmental conservation. He also highlighted the sacrifices of Himachal’s decorated soldiers and praised Flight Lieutenant Arshveer Singh Thakur for his courage during Operation Sindoor.
Sukhu said the government was actively pursuing the state’s interests, including the Kishau Dam Project, enhancement of the Green Bonus, recovery of BBMB dues and reclaiming the Shanan Power Project. He noted that the Supreme Court verdict in the Karcham Wangtoo royalty case and the resolution of the Wildflower Hall dispute would strengthen the state’s revenue position.
Highlighting key achievements, he said Himachal Pradesh has attained 100 per cent literacy, introduced English-medium education from Class I in government schools and expanded skill-based learning opportunities. He also underlined initiatives such as the ₹680-crore Rajiv Gandhi Swarozgar Start-up Scheme, renewable energy projects and investments in healthcare infrastructure.
Expressing concern over drug abuse, the Chief Minister said the Chitta-Mukt Himachal Abhiyan and the upcoming Khelo India Chitta Mukt Abhiyan would help steer youth towards sports and healthy lifestyles while building a drug-free society.
