CM Sukhu laid the foundation stone of an ultra-modern critical care block at the new campus of Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur, located at Jol Sapper near the district headquarters. The project is estimated to cost around ₹35 crore.
Following the foundation ceremony, the Chief Minister inspected the newly constructed hospital block, academic block and other ongoing infrastructure works at the campus. He directed officials of the CPWD, PWD and Medical College to ensure timely completion of projects while maintaining quality standards. He also emphasized the need to expedite the handover process and complete the shifting of various hospital and academic departments to Jol Sapper at the earliest.
The Chief Minister announced that different departments of the Medical College at Jol Sapper will begin functioning in the first week of July. He also held discussions with officials on issues related to the institution and concerns raised by local residents.
Sukhu further stated that the state government will allocate ₹150 crore for the modernization of laboratories across all medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh. The funding will be used to install advanced equipment and upgrade facilities with the latest technology. He added that outdated machines at Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College will be replaced.
He also informed that large-scale recruitment of doctors, professors, nurses and other healthcare staff is underway to strengthen medical services and ensure adequate manpower in health institutions across the state. Principal Dr. Ramesh Bharti, along with officials from CPWD and PWD, briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of ongoing construction works at the campus.
