In a major push toward strengthening indigenous deep-tech and semiconductor capabilities, the Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, has signed an agreement with Nagpur-based M/s Multi Nano Sense Technologies Private Limited. Under the Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund, TDB will provide financial support worth ₹37.51 crore (via Optionally Convertible Debt) toward a total project cost of ₹75.02 crore. The initiative aims to advance an indigenous MEMS-based multi-gas sensing platform from Technology Readiness Level 4 (TRL-4) to market-ready TRL-9.

Multi Nano Sense is developing an integrated MEMS thermal conductivity/infrared (TCDIR) gas sensor coupled with a custom CMOS Application-Specific Front-End System-on-Chip (AFE SoC). Packaged into an ultra-compact form factor (under 25 mm × 25 mm × 15 mm) with a rapid response time of less than 200 milliseconds, the intelligent sensing unit features low power consumption, auto-calibration, and robust operation in extreme industrial conditions. The technology is tailored for critical applications across petrochemical refineries, hydrogen infrastructure, PNG networks, power systems, battery safety, and process control.

Highlighting the strategic value of the project, Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, stated that sensors form the bedrock of modern technology systems and that building self-reliance in MEMS and semiconductor electronics is crucial for India’s industrial competitiveness. He emphasized that the RDI Fund is designed to nurture high-impact deep-tech innovations through the intensive validation phase required for large-scale commercialization. Representatives from Multi Nano Sense added that TDB’s backing will be instrumental in scaling up integration and establishing India as a key player in advanced sensor technology.
