In line with CM Sukhu’s directives to ensure student safety across Himachal Pradesh, Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari convened a review meeting with leadership teams from 17 private universities at the Police Headquarters in Shimla. The meeting addressed safety lessons from recent incidents at neighboring institutions, such as Lovely Professional University and Chitkara University, with a goal to establish seamless police-university communication.
Key outcomes of the discussions included strengthening campus entry checks, verifying hostel security and private guards, appointing institutional Nodal Security Officers, and launching joint security audits with local police authorities. Furthermore, institutions committed to joining the statewide anti-chitta (anti-drug) campaign, establishing official media spokespersons to curb social media rumors, and raising awareness about the 112 emergency helpline and ‘Track Me’ women’s safety features.
Emphasizing that student well-being and drug prevention are a shared duty, DGP Tiwari reiterated the force’s commitment to preventive security rather than reactive measures. Senior police officials, including Inspectors General, Range DIGs, and Superintendents of Police from key districts, attended the session to help build a safer, more secure environment for students across the state.
