In a landmark achievement for Himachal Pradesh’s horticulture sector, a fresh consignment of 1.3 metric tonnes of high-quality ‘Sinduri’ pomegranates grown in Kullu district was officially exported to Dubai today. Marking another success in the state’s drive to take local produce global, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu highlighted that the administration is leaving no stone unturned to secure premium international prices for native growers.
The export was facilitated through the Chandigarh regional office of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). Sourced directly from local orchards and the Bhuntar Farmer Producer Organization (FPO)—a collective supporting over 600 local growers—this historic dispatch featured produce from progressive farmers including Reena Devi, Sanjay Kumar, Nitish Kumar, and Vir Singh Guleria.
This milestone follows a successful trial in June, when 800 kilograms of Shimla-grown cherries and plums were exported to Oman. Urging growers to align with global agricultural trends, Chief Minister Sukhu encouraged the cultivation of export-grade varieties to establish Himachal’s brand equity in foreign markets, assuring continued state support to expand international trade corridors for local agriculture.
