Highlighting India’s rapid transformation into a global medical powerhouse, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh declared that the world is stepping into a groundbreaking era of AI-assisted, gene-driven precision medicine, with India positioned on the front lines. Speaking as Chief Guest at the 42nd Convocation of the Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER) in Chennai, Dr. Singh emphasized that the incoming generation of medical professionals will bear both the privilege of using cutting-edge technologies and the responsibility of balancing them with sound clinical judgment.

Drawing on four decades of clinical experience as a Professor of Medicine and Diabetes, Dr. Singh highlighted a worrying epidemiological shift: chronic lifestyle conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases are increasingly striking younger demographics. Warning that a diagnosis at age 30 carries multi-decade implications for vital organ health, he stressed that preventive care and early intervention must become a top national priority to protect India’s human capital and achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The Minister pointed to landmark achievements in indigenous medical innovation—including India’s native COVID-19 DNA vaccine, advances in gene therapy for hemophilia, novel therapeutics like nafithromycin, and research into nuclear medicine for leukemia and fatty liver disease. Inviting SRIHER to deepen its collaborative ties with national research initiatives, Dr. Singh urged greater synergy across genomics, biomanufacturing, and startup ecosystems to ensure advanced treatments remain accessible and affordable.
