The last leg of the Painting Competition saw senior category participants paint a few amazing creations; a part of the International Shimla Summer Festival, which was held from 1 June- 3 June 2022 in Shimla. The event is an annual affair that involves students and professionals who then engage in various competitions. The painting competition has various categories: sub-junior, junior, sub-senior and senior categories during this period. The theme given for painting to seniors was Azadi Festival, Summer Festival and Himachal’s Culture. The first, second and third place students in the competition will be honoured by the chief guest on the last day of the Summer Festival.

A total of five colleges participated in the event, J.L.N. Fine Arts College, Evening College, R.K.M.V College, R.G.G.C Kotshera, and H.P.U. Shimla. With a total of 45 participants, 45 artworks were created and each was very unique and vibrant; the colours, narratives, and the type of artists ranged but the work produced was promising and the quality wasn’t compromised. To elaborate on the types of artworks that were created by the participants, an interesting element of diversity was observed in each, some bore glimpses of famous pre-existing artworks such as Starry Night by Vincent Van Goh, and some were a reflection of India’s eminent figures and their attributes, while other works were a representation of the armed forces and patriotic elements of the nation based on the theme of the event. Views of Shimla added to the beauty of the works. Overall, the work created was very admirable and distinct as the artist created wonderful canvases full of talent.

The events have been administered by DN Azaad, Science Consultant, from the Education Department, and DLO Anil Harta, whereas, the jury consists of professors from various art colleges and renowned artist Him Chatterjee.
