St. Edward’s School marked its 98th Founders’ Day to commemorate its legacy and success with great verve and reverence. This propitious day began with the welcome of the Chief Guest Lt Gen PM Bali, an alumnus of the school. He has held a number of important command appointments namely, Commanding Officer 24th Battalion of the Punjab Regiment, while deployed in intense counter insurgency operations, from 2000 to 2003, Commander 31 Infantry Brigade in the desert sector, from 2009 to 2010, General Officer Commanding, 57 Mountain Division in the North East from November 2013 to December 2014 and General Officer Commanding of 33 Corps in Sukna from August 2017 to August 2018, during the Doklam crisis in Sikkim, with China. Lt Gen Bali’s son is also an alumnus of the school and is presently a Captain in the Army, posted in Jammu and Kashmir. The General Officer retired as the Chief of Staff Western Command on 31 October 2019.
The function commenced with the unfurling of the school flag followed by the School Anthem which perfectly captured the core essence of the school’s tribute to the Founders. The Annual Report was presented as prominent achievements of the school were highlighted. The school had won accolades in debates, sports, competitions, paintings, academic competitions, Olympiads at the school, inter-school and the state level. The Special Achievers of the school who not only made the school but also the state proud are Anirudh Thakur, Abhijay Nagal, Hardik Sharma along with the Academic Toppers were felicitated by the Chief Guest.
Soon after, the Investiture Ceremony began as School Principal Reverend Fr. Anil Wilson Sequiera began with the oath, which the new school cabinet pledged to follow. They were awarded with the badges and sashes by the Chief Guest. Following the ceremony was the March Past by the school houses and alumni. The newly elected School Captain Anirudh Thakur proposed the vote of thanks to all the dignitaries on behalf of the entire school, which was followed by the National Anthem.
