Aadil Bedi becomes the youngest participant — at 13 years 9 months — in the National Amateur Golf Championship after winning the Western India Junior Golf Championship !!!
Aadil Bedi, a bright young boy from Chandigarh City, has just taken strides towards achieving his dreams — winning a title for Team India. With a win at the Western India Junior Golf Championship held in Mumbai, Aadil is now all set to make his debut in 114th Amateur Championship of India at KGA Golf Course at Bangalore from 1st December, 2014. He will be in the B category, that is in the age group 13-15 years, of the Indian squad. Now he gets to compete against players of 18 years and above thus joining the elite amateur golfers club from India. IGU has also invited best golfers from the neighboring countries as well to compete in this event. Aadil will be the youngest participant in this National Amateur Golf Championship.
To reach this rare feat Aadil displayed a very matured game as he shot a brilliant score of 69, 73, 72 and 73, thus winning the Western India Junior Golf Championship in style by 3 strokes with hot and humid conditions prevailing at the Bombay Presidency Golf Course in Mumbai. He shot 10 birdies in four days. In fact, Aadil shot under par in the opening round and took a lead on the first day itself, which he never surrendered during the four days of the tournament.
With a strong total of 280 points from 7 best matches in IGU circuit, Aadil booked his berth in the Indian squad which will now enable him to participate in international events in Asia and Europe in 2015. Apart from this win at Mumbai in IGU circuit, he finished as first runners up at Chandigarh and at the West Bengal Championship at Tollygunj Golf Club, Kolkata. He ensured top ten position in all the seven matches he played which includes 4th position in the Eastern India Junior Championship at RCGC Kolkata and Northern India at ITC Classics at Gurgaon. He ensured his 6th position in All India Junior Golf Championship at Eagleton Golf Resort at Bangalore last week with scores of 84, 73, 77 and 74.
It was a proud moment for his parents, Harinder Bedi and Hargunjit Kaur, who have been a strong support in Aadil’s life and helping his achieve this huge success. It is also a matter of prestige for his team under whose guidance and hard work he has practised golf — Director of National Golf Academy, Jesse Grewal , his on course psychological coach, Gursimran Singh Sethi and Ex Director Sports, Punjab University Chandigarh, Gurmeet Singh.
