Temporary School Closures Amidst Himachal Calamity Concerns

In response to the unprecedented heavy rainfall and calamitous events in Himachal Pradesh, the Chhatra Abhibhavak Manch Himachal Pradesh has appealed to the state government and the education department to temporarily close all government and private schools as well as other educational institutions in the region. This call comes in light of the safety concerns posed by the adverse weather conditions and the need to ensure the well-being of students.

Temporary School Closures Amidst Himachal Calamity Concerns

With Himachal Pradesh grappling with heavy rainfalls, continuous showers, cloud bursts, and the overflow of rivers and water bodies, the state has witnessed extensive damage to buildings, roads, and infrastructure. The cumulative impact of these calamitous events has led to an estimated economic loss of over Rs. 10,000 crores. Numerous roads have been washed away, buildings have collapsed, and tragically, several lives have been lost.

The Chhatra Abhibhavak Manch’s coordinators, Vijendra Mehra and Vivek Kashyap, emphasized that the current weather conditions have created a precarious situation for students. Given the unpredictability of weather patterns and the potential for unforeseen incidents, they argue that ensuring the safety of children should be the paramount concern.

Highlighting the successful adoption of online classes during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Manch suggested that education institutions should once again turn to online platforms to ensure the continuation of education without compromising the safety of students. By leveraging the online education model that was implemented during the pandemic, schools can provide students with a secure learning environment that aligns with the prevailing circumstances.

The Manch reiterated its request for a temporary closure of all schools until the weather conditions stabilize and the threat of natural calamities subsides. They stressed that safeguarding the lives of children should be the top priority and urged the state government and education department to take proactive steps to ensure both the education and security of students. In these challenging times, the thoughtful response from education authorities will not only ensure students’ education but also prioritize their safety amidst the unpredictable weather conditions.
