The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, in partnership with the Information and Library Network Centre (INFLIBNET), Gandhinagar, inaugurated a five-day training program on library automation. This initiative aims to equip library professionals with cutting-edge technical knowledge and train them in the effective use of SOUL 3.0 software, a widely adopted tool in academic libraries across India.
Training Program Highlights
The event, held at the IIAS Pool Theatre, began with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The training program has attracted 50 library professionals from various colleges in Himachal Pradesh, showcasing its regional impact.
Welcome Address: Insights into SOUL 3.0
In his welcome speech, Mr. Prem Chand, Librarian and Program Coordinator, emphasized the efficiency of SOUL 3.0 software. He stated, “This software simplifies and enhances library operations. Our goal is to enable participants to deliver excellent library services in their institutions.”
Expert Training and Objectives
The lead trainer, Mr. Yatrik Patel from INFLIBNET, detailed the objectives and activities of the program. Encouraging participants, he remarked, “Utilize the knowledge gained here to enhance services for students and researchers.”

A significant feature of the program is a dedicated discussion on INFLIBNET’s “One Nation, One Subscription” initiative. This national-level initiative provides free access to e-journals from 30 leading publishers for universities and colleges across India, fostering equitable access to academic resources.
