Auckland House Senior School, Shimla celebrated its Sports Day on the school ground in a frolicsome atmosphere. The Chief Guest for the event was IPS Officer, Abhishek Trivedi, D.I.G. Security at CID Headquarters, Kusumpti, Shimla. The splendid event began with the March Past by the four Houses — Durrant (blue flag), Matthew (red flag), French (green flag) and Lefroy (purple flag) respectively.
Students demonstrated their abilities in different sports and fitness activities which not only involves physical strength but also helps in nourishing the mind, enhances coordination and concentration.
Yoga at an early age encourages self-esteem and body awareness and the girls showcased some amazing Yogic moves. A vibrant show of colours was displayed through PT exhibit by the girls with multi-coloured ribbons. Then the young girls demonstrated great body balance by performing gymnastics. An amalgamation of different abilities, tremendous body strength, strong discipline, grace and self-confide was seen during the karate performance.
Finally the Auckyites geared up for some competitive track events. The first competition was Obstacle Race which was won by Kirti Houta; Gunjan Saklani, Tenzin Sonam Khampa in the first group and Gauri Sharma; Hemanshi Sharma, Arzoo Shyam won in the second group. The Skipping Relay winners were Aashna Chhatwal, Akanksha Gaur, Shilpa Devak in the first group and Swastika Chauhan, Kritika Kumari, Muskan Bhardwaj won in the second group. The Ball Relay was won by Rashi Singh, Diksha Rathore, Shilpa Devak in the first group and Arzoo Shyam, Harmohan Beer, Shachi Sharma won in the second group. In the Baton Relay Shilpa Revak, Sara Bhimta, Diksha Rathore won in the first group followed by Harmon Beer, Arzoo Shyam, Shachi Sharma for the second group. The standing of students in Karate was as follows: Prerna Negi, Osheen Chandel, Shivani Chauhan.
The points awarded to each House according to their position in the events were added up and the final results were as follows: 1st position — Matthew House; 2nd position — Lefroy House; 3rd position — French House and 4th position — Durrant House.
After the spirited events a fun tug of war took place between the teachers and students and surprisingly the latter won effortlessly.
Auckland House School Principal, Sunita John appreciated the hard work put in by the teachers as well as students to make the Sports Day successful. The celebrations ended with the prize distribution as the event was marked by enthusiastic participation of students and parents.
