Student of Chapslee School gave some amazing and dazzling performances during their Annual Variety Concert held to the Kali Bari Hall, Shimla. A two days fiesta for the parents of Junior and Senior wing of the school, the Director-Principal, Pronati Singh welcomed the Chief Guest Shalinder Singh, Deputy General Manager (HR), SJVN and all the parents on behalf of the staff and students on the occasion. The event began with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest followed by the school report. Principal Singh acknowledged and appreciated the contributions of SJVN towards the prestigious inter-school competition, namely, the Padmashree Naina Devi Inter School talent Contest, an initiative undertaken to promote cultural skills and interaction among students and various schools.
Principal Singh then briefly traced the steps of the previous year’s academic, athletic and cultural results of school. She said, “The CBSE Class XII results were satisfying as all 103 students had cleared the exams and the toppers of the school were Garima Thakur, who scored 90 per cent in Medical stream, Ankur Jaret scored 90 per cent in Non-Medical, Peeyush Sharma scored 86 per cent in Humanities and Aditi Sharma was the topper in Commerce stream with 85 per cent”. She further outlined the achievements of the students who took part in various inter school events and won many awards and accolades in competitions held during the year.
“In 2014 the winning streak began with the inter school Under 19 relay for girls and boys during the Sports Day on 25th May, where Chapslee school student secured second positions, respectively. On 27th July, the Youth Enlightening Society held their Annual Inter School competition at Gaiety Theatre, the school dance troupe comprising of Shimona Prateek, Urvee Verma, Radhika Verma, Aditya Negi, Muskaan Chauhan and Sheetal Kashyap won the second prize. In Collage Making, Nikita Bisht and Chander Prakash Negi won the 1st Prize. Amatya Chauhan won the 1st prize in photography, while Ayushi and Shimona won the 1st prize in Hindi and English Poetry writing”. The list of achievements and awards of the students were endless, which only went on to prove the academic as well as extra curriculum excellence of the school and hard work put in by the teachers.
Lastly, she informed that nearly 150 students from the junior wing and 80 from the senior section participated in the items that would be presented today. She also appreciated and thanked her staff, namely, Kirti Tiwari, Vandana Sharma, Preeti Verma, Rupali, Santosh, Sudarshan Dogra, Nidhi Sood, Mrs Singh, Richa Sharma among others for putting up such a grand show. Principal Singh concluded on the note that “An important factor which influences a child’s outlook at every state is the behavior of parents and teacher towards him, and ultimately children learn what they live”.
The lively entertainment programme began with a beautiful performance by Megha, Abhilasha and their group — Shiv Vandana, a welcome dance by students of Classes 9, 10 and 11. It was the turn of Class 2 and 3 students, who sung a sweet poem about two little kittens, by Parth, Uvika, Abhay, Devika, Sharanya and Mrigagshi among others. The concept of Sunday picnics was re-lived by the students of Nursery, Kindergarten and Class 1, how growing visits to restaurants and eating outlets have increased unlike yesteryears when nature walks, hikes and free plays accompanied with picnic baskets was the norm. Little Yashvir, Dhruv, Aripta among others gave very cute and bubbly performances on a melody of cute songs.
Next in line were the students of Classes 4 and 5 who recited a very meaningful and inspiring poem by the noted poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan tiled “Koshish karne walo ki kabhi haar nahi hoti”, which was followed by an English play titled ‘Clever Shepherd’ by the students of Classes 6, 7 and 8. The next items in the programme were an English song and a dance by the students. Angel, Advika, Chahat, Hardik, Shreya, Deepika, Sanvi, Suhanika among others from Class 1 gave a sweet performance on the dance titled ‘Thodi masti thodi dhoom’. Students of Classes 9, 10 and 11, Neelanchal and Hitesh Justa with others gave some great advice about self realization through a Hindi play. The understanding, realization and power of knowledge is emphasized through some brilliant performances by the students. A Marathi Dance by Tanisha, Astha, Saumya, Bhaumik and Priyanshu among others received huge applaud from the parents, which was then followed by a small skit paying tribute to the fathers, performed by Shivansh, Aditya and Kaushal.
An English play titled ‘Canterville Ghost’ was quite entertaining, followed by another English song ‘Flying High’. The grand finale performance was a tribute to a soldier and his heroics, how he leaves behind his wife and family to serve the nation – a very touching and heart-warming act given by Shimona and Aditya.
The day ended with the speech by the chief guest, who applauded and congratulated all the students for such an amazing and incredible performances. He expressed gratitude for inviting him to such an astonishing display of talent to witness this variety concert. He lauded the efforts of both the teachers and the students alike for all their hard work in making this day a grand success. (see video clip)
Finally, the vote of thanks was given by the School Captain Shimona Prateek, who gave a nostalgic speech about her journey in the school and the sweet memories she will always cherish. Each and every act was embedded with a meaningful message. A final word of appreciation and admiration for all the teachers whose patience was reflected through the wonderful performances by the students as the evening came to an end.
