With heatwave conditions intensifying across several regions, the Ministry of Ayush and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have issued a public health advisory urging people to take precautions against heat-related illnesses.

The advisory recommends staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, wearing light cotton clothes and consuming electrolyte-rich fluids and seasonal fruits.

Children, pregnant women, senior citizens, outdoor workers and people suffering from chronic illnesses have been identified as the most vulnerable groups during extreme heat conditions.

Citizens have also been advised to watch for symptoms such as dizziness, dehydration, nausea and high body temperature, while heatstroke has been termed a medical emergency requiring immediate treatment.

The advisory additionally promotes traditional wellness practices from Ayurveda, Yoga, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy, including cooling drinks, light diets and breathing exercises like Sheetali Pranayama to manage heat stress.

People have been urged to follow weather updates issued by the India Meteorological Department and take necessary precautions during heatwave alerts.
