Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday inaugurated the NSUI District Mandi’s ‘Drug-Free Campus’ campaign from Shimla, marking a significant step toward creating awareness against drug abuse among students. The campaign aims to educate young people about the harmful effects of drugs, particularly chitta, and motivate them to engage in education, sports, and other constructive activities.
Addressing the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the initiative aligns closely with the state government’s vision of a drug-free Himachal Pradesh. He noted that the campaign would further strengthen the government’s ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and appreciated NSUI Mandi for taking an active role in safeguarding the future of the youth. He emphasized that such awareness drives are crucial to keeping students away from drugs.
NSUI District Mandi President Anit Jaswal said that the campaign draws inspiration from the Chief Minister’s anti-chitta campaign and is focused on making school and college campuses drug-free. He informed that the programme would feature awareness sessions, anti-drug pledges, anti-chitta walkathons, and sports tournaments.
The ‘Drug-Free Campus’ campaign will be conducted from 23 January to 15 February, beginning with activities at the school level and later extending to colleges across the district.
