Annual Day Celebrations – 2014 by the students and the teachers of DAV School Lakkar Bazar saw life and energy being propelled into an inspiring and encouraging message of WOMAN EMPOWERMENT. The function was held in Gaiety Theatre and the chief guests for the occasion were Deputy Mayor Tikender Panwar, and Deputy Commissioner Dinesh Malhotra. The event began with an inspiring speech by the School Principal, Kamna Berry, who informed the parents about the achievements of the students and the activities that took place in the last academic year. She said, “A warm welcome to all sitting here – colleagues, guests, parents and dear children. 2013 -14 was a successful year for us as the students of board classes scored brilliantly. Highest score for Class 12, non-medical was 97.6 per cent, medical 96.8 per cent and commerce 92.4 per cent. There were 10 students who scored above 90 per cent in their board exams”.
She further added, “Excellence in academics is the hallmark of any good institution. We are positive that the students will do us proud. These students have been able to get admissions in top medical and engineering colleges of India. While we are happy to see our students grow into confident young adults, ready to take on life, we wish them all the best for their future. The last year saw varied events and happenings that touched us, inspired us and taught us. All year through, the school team continued to put efforts towards quality improvement in every aspect of our work. We set standards and goals for ourselves and strived to achieve them – be it in the area of academics, sports, events, discipline, leadership, management systems and more”.
A vital message of women’s strength and power was given out by the students through their exuberant performances during the annual day function. Students from Classes 6 to 12 participated in the event. Dancing on songs such as ‘Bekhauf Azad Hai Jeena Mujhe’, they conveyed the message of freedom for woman in true sense. Inequalities between men and women and discrimination against women have been age-old issues all over the world. After years of struggle, they have demanded equality with men in matters of education, employment and inheritance. Through a dance performance, students depicted that in today’s world women are an integral part of all major professions: architectures, lawyers, financial services, engineering, medical and IT jobs. They are increasingly and gradually seen marching into domains which were previously reserved for males — police, drivers, army, pilots, chartered accountants, commandos and so on. Few students who won the heart of all the people with their exuberant performance were Aditi, Siddhi, Ruhi, Akansha, Himanshi, Palak, Chaavi, Isha, Sonia, Isha, Vibhuti, Tanisha, Vanshika, Kanishka, Charu, Pallavi, Muskan, Sahib, Kartik and Ritik among others.
Talking to some of the proud parents of the winners and participants, while expressing her happiness one of the parents, Mrs Pandey said, “It feels great to see our child is performing on the stage. He also won the proficiency prize for coming first in the class and has made us proud”. Mrs Sharma shared her happiness by saying, “We have come here to see our daughter perform today. She was in the dance. We have made a video which we will be showing to other family members who are waiting eagerly to see it”. Mrs Kalta said, “It is always a delight to see your children perform on stage and my happiness is doubled because my son is one of the prize winners.
The event officially ended with the prize distribution ceremony and a speech by the chief guest Tikender Panwar who said, “I am very grateful to be here among such lovely children. The spectacular performance by the students has left me speechless. The enthusiasm of the students was unbelievable. Hats off to all the parents who have come here in large numbers to support their children. Parents are the source of strength for their children and their presence makes them feel encouraged. None of the materialistic gifts can replace the love and support of parents for a child. I wish these bright students all the best for their future”.
