Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has called for the creation of a “BRICS Space Economy,” urging member nations to deepen cooperation in innovation, investment and sustainable space development.

Speaking at the BRICS Heads of Space Agencies (HOSA) meeting in Bengaluru, he said BRICS countries have the scale and scientific strength to become a key pillar of the global space ecosystem.

He stressed that the future of space growth will be shaped by partnerships, shared innovation and collective action rather than isolated efforts.

The meeting, hosted by ISRO under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026, discussed space sustainability, debris-free missions, Earth observation, disaster management and the proposed BRICS Space Council.

Dr. Singh also highlighted India’s growing space sector and reforms that have boosted startups and private participation, citing missions like Chandrayaan-3, Aditya-L1 and Gaganyaan.

Calling for deeper collaboration, he urged BRICS nations to move from coordination to co-creation to jointly address global challenges through space technology.
