CH3Creativity and talent were at its best today during the 6th Padamshree Naina Devi Inter School Talent Contest – 2014, organized by Chapslee School, Bharari, Shimla to give a platform to give children to showcase their flair and aptitude. Fourteen schools from across Shimla City and Solan participated in the gala event, in various competition held throughout the day in the school premises. Events lined up for the day were Aaj Ki Aawaz – Declamation (English and Hindi); Nanhe Haath – Painting Competition; Rekhain – Sketching; Jhankaar – Stage Presentation and Lazeez-e-Daawat – Dry Cooking Competition.

This talent contest has been instituted by Kanwar Ratanjit Singh in the memory of his mother, Naina Devi, and is organized by Director Principal, Pronati Singh, Chapslee School, Shimla, and the management in order to revive art/music and give children a chance to showcase their hidden talents. Padmashri Naina Devi was a doyen of music and traditional art form “thumri” who broke the shackles of time to express herself through her passion of song and dance. Not only was she an outstanding musician, her dedication to preserving the delicate music forms, including the vanishing folk art, of which she was custodian, was matched equally by her devotion to the propagation of all art forms. Thus to share their ideas, thoughts, views and expressions through creative art children are given the opportunity to express themselves creatively either through verbal expression, pen and paper or stage acts by organizing this event every year.

Dr Singh said, “I am amazed to see such talent among kids and the dialogue delivery and confidence shown by kids during the declamation was very good. It was quite difficult for me to give marks to them as they all were at par but then we do have a duty to select a winner. In the sketching segment I am happy to see the work of the seniors but I am a little disappointed by the juniors who made the paintings. I was expecting a little more from them. But overall it was a great show by the kids”.

Judges for the dry cooking competition and stage presentations were Dr Seems Batra and Captain Laxmi, both from field of music from RKMV College. They were amazed to see some of the dishes and culinary ideas put forth by the kids. Dr Batra said, “Some dishes looked average as there was not much effort put into it but a few were just outstanding. We especially liked the Hawain Pasta Salad because of its presentation and taste and the Chocolate Panache as it was full of flavours and well executed”. The judging of stage acts was equally tough as the difference among teams was just in points.

The Chief Guest then stepped up on the stage and congratulated all the participants for putting up a brilliant show. He said, “It was an honour for me to witness such talent and the hard work and dedication shown by the students to give their best performances”. He also lauded the efforts of the school CEO Kanwar Ratanjit Singh, Director Principal Pronati Singh and the school faculty members for organizing this event by giving children the opportunity to showcase their skills.

The evening ended with the prize distribution and celebrations all around as each school had something to carry home !!!
