Empowering Women via Science

The three-day long exhibition, “Women Empowerment 2019” organized by Prayas an NGO at Gaiety Theatre concluded here today as the main focus of the exhibition was on Research & Development, Power, Infrastructure, Heath Care, Handloom & Handicrafts, ISRO, Kadhi and Agriculture. Informing about the event, Dinesh Aggarwal project head said that, mostly private schools gets more exposure and often government schools are left out so we attempted to invite government schools in large numbers. We aim at providing them an opportunity to understand the environment and use science in day-to-day life.

Empowering Women via ScienceStudents from various schools presented different and good models that represented issues ranging from monkey menace to flood warnings. Water purification in the mountains was also depicted. Other models included dynamo, volcano and earthquake warning system to name some. Students also showed various biology models like digestive system and inspired by the PM Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, students also showed how toilet waste can be recycled and used for the betterment as manure.

Students also got an opportunity to have direct interaction with scientists who cleared their doubts on various topics and inspired them to become scientist in future and contribute for the betterment of the society.

Empowering Women via ScienceSchools that bagged prizes for their models included GSSS, Kahlini for AC generator made by Sakshi; GSSS Phagli for water purifying treatment plant presented by Mohit, Sneha and Preeti; GSSS Chotta Shimla for their project eco-friendly village presented by Sanjeev, Rajat and Yash; GSS Phagli for monkey territory by Ayush, Sumit, Kritika, Abhishek and Kishan.

Winner of the exhibition was awarded to GSSS Phagli for their model on Rain Harvesting presented by Ritika, Neha, Pratibha, Aman and Saurash.

More than 200 hundred students from different schools including private as well as government schools participated and each one felt wiser and more enlightened via interaction with students from different schools.

“It was a great experience. We were curious about the exhibition and were hoping to have an opportunity to learn something new. We are happy that we got the opportunity to become part of this exhibition and hope that in future too we get such opportunities,” expressed the excited students from various schools.
