India has taken a major step in bolstering scientific and technological cooperation with the Global South through the launch of the inaugural MEA–CSIR Tech Familiarization Programme in New Delhi. Jointly organized by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Ministry of External Affairs’ NEST Division, the landmark event brought together 33 ambassadors and senior embassy officials from 29 nations to experience India’s advanced research capabilities firsthand.During their visits to premier facilities like the CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) and the CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB), the visiting diplomats explored cutting-edge domestic innovations. Highlights included live demonstrations of sustainable infrastructure solutions—such as “Ecofix,” an instant pothole repair mix made from industrial steel slag—as well as advanced capabilities in genome sequencing, biobanking, and precision healthcare.
The program concluded with collaborative roundtable discussions exploring technology transfer, joint research, and capacity-building initiatives tailored to the developmental needs of partner countries. By bridging diplomatic outreach with direct laboratory engagement, the initiative establishes a practical framework for sharing India’s indigenous innovations to drive inclusive and sustainable global growth.
