Governor Meets VCs, Pushes for Education Reform

The Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Kavinder Gupta, on Wednesday held meetings with academic leaders and an international envoy to discuss higher education reforms and opportunities for global cooperation.

Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University, Prof. Mahavir Singh, and Vice Chancellor of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Prof. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel, called on the Governor at Lok Bhawan in Shimla. During the interaction, they briefed him on ongoing academic, research, and developmental initiatives in their respective institutions, with a focus on innovation and skill-based learning.

The Governor emphasized the need to enhance the quality of higher education and align academic programmes with global standards. He highlighted the importance of holistic student development through value-based education, skill enhancement, and research-oriented learning. Stressing the role of universities in nation-building, he urged institutions to nurture responsible and skilled citizens while adopting innovative practices.

In a separate meeting, Kanika Chaudhary, Special Envoy to the UAE and India, also met the Governor and discussed avenues to strengthen cooperation between India and the United Arab Emirates. Key areas of discussion included trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchange.

The Governor appreciated the growing India-UAE relations and highlighted Himachal Pradesh’s potential in tourism, horticulture, and education. He stressed the need to attract investment and foster international partnerships to support the state’s economic growth and development.

He also underscored the importance of global engagement, encouraging initiatives that promote knowledge exchange, innovation, and sustainable development.
