Governor visits Institute of Children with Special Ability

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar today visited the Institute of Children with Special Ability located at Dhali near Shimla operated by Himachal Pradesh State Child Welfare Council and interacted with the students. On this occasion, the Governor said that these children were an inspiration to the society. He said that it was the responsibility of the society to promote the talent of special children and also to bring them to the mainstream. He expressed happiness that several vocational programmes are being organized for the students in the institute so that they could become self-reliant and earn their livelihood. “There are some people in the society who do nothing and are surrounded by pessimistic thoughts. On the contrary, these children want to move ahead in life, which is a special thing. That’s why these children are even ahead of the disability”, said Arlekar.

The Governor said that every child should be provided equal opportunity to express their feelings and showcase their talent. He also thanked the teachers for taking special care and providing training to these children. Earlier, Payal Vaidya, Secretary General, Himachal Pradesh Child Welfare Council welcomed the Governor and briefed about the various programs being run for special children through the Child Welfare Council. She said that 105 hearing impaired, 35 visually impaired children were enrolled in this institute and about 46 teachers and non-teachers were involved in their care. She said that five vocational courses were being run and children were progressing by becoming proficient in it. On this occasion, the Governor distributed track suits and blankets through the State Red Cross to the children. Principal, Institute of Children with Special Ability, D.P. Rana welcomed the Governor and detailed him about activities of the institute. Priyatu Mandal, Secretary to Governor was also present on the occasion.
