In a groundbreaking move towards fulfilling its election promises, the Himachal Pradesh government has kickstarted the e-taxi scheme under the Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Start-up Yojna. This initiative aims to provide lucrative self-employment opportunities to the state’s youth, aligning with Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s vision of transforming Himachal Pradesh into a ‘Green Energy State’ by March 2026.

Key Points:

  1. Age and Eligibility Criteria:
    • Applicants, aged 23 and above, holding a valid driving permit, can apply for the e-taxi scheme through the website http://etaxihpdt.org/home.
    • A bonafide Himachali certificate is mandatory, and the applicant must personally drive the e-taxi without subletting.
  2. Application Process:
    • Interested individuals need to complete the necessary formalities and apply for permission through the Transport Department’s online portal.
    • The RTO level committee will carefully scrutinize applications and select beneficiaries.
  3. Permits and Future Expansion:
    • The first phase will see the issuance of 500 e-taxi permits, with the possibility of increasing the number based on demand.
    • Government departments, local authorities, and corporations will gradually adopt e-taxis to provide consistent employment to the youth.
  4. Monthly Fare Categories:
    • The monthly fare rates are categorized to suit various user groups, ensuring accessibility and affordability.
  5. Subsidies and Loan Conditions:
    • A 50 percent subsidy for e-taxi purchases will be facilitated through the Labour and Employment Department.
    • Conditions for obtaining loans under the scheme will be relaxed, fostering financial support for aspiring entrepreneurs.
