CM Sukhu on Tuesday reviewed the roadmap for the ‘Khelo Himachal-Chitta Mukt Abhiyan’, a flagship campaign aimed at combating drug abuse through sports and youth engagement across Himachal Pradesh.
Expressing concern over the growing menace of ‘Chitta’ and other narcotics, the Chief Minister said the government was adopting a multi-pronged approach by combining strict enforcement against drug networks with awareness, prevention and rehabilitation measures.
He said the campaign would encourage youth participation in sports as a positive alternative to substance abuse while promoting discipline, teamwork and healthy competition.
Sukhu directed that awareness activities be conducted across all 3,758 gram panchayats, eight municipal corporations, 29 municipal councils and 39 nagar panchayats, with special focus on 235 highly affected gram panchayats. Sports competitions, awareness drives and community outreach programmes will be organised as part of the campaign.
Competitions will be held at the sub-divisional, district and state levels, with technical committees overseeing their conduct. The government has earmarked Rs. 11.56 crore for organising the events, including prize money for winners and runners-up.
The Chief Minister said the goal of a ‘Nasha-Mukt Himachal’ could be achieved only through collective efforts of government agencies, educational institutions, sports organisations, local bodies and civil society, urging all stakeholders to support the campaign.
