In a landmark meeting bridging national security, economic growth, and environmental care, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presided over the 12th State Board for Wildlife in Shimla. Striking a careful balance between development and conservation, the board gave crucial clearances to reinforce India’s northern defenses. These include forest land diversions for key Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) outposts in Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur, alongside military infrastructure development for the 11 MAHAR Regiment inside the scenic Rakcham-Chhitkul Wildlife Sanctuary.
Beyond defense, the state signaled a strong push for economic acceleration. The board cleared the setup of a new Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing plant in Kangra, approved a major capacity expansion for Goyal Furnace in Una, and greenlit the widening of the Bhulah–Shikari Devi Road within Mandi’s Shikari Devi Sanctuary.
On the conservation front, CM Sukhu took direct aim at human-wildlife conflicts and animal safety. Recognizing rising concerns, he ordered targeted interventions to curb wildlife fatalities along the Kiratpur–Manali Four-Lane Highway and demanded granular, panchayat-wise census data on monkey populations across Himachal. After reviewing fast-track progress on the landmark Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park in Dehra, the Chief Minister capped off the event by unveiling two special wildlife postcard collections alongside a scientific guide on water analysis authored by PCCF Dr. Sanjay Sood.
