The Himachali Pravasi Global Association (HPGA) organized a grand celebration of the world-renowned Kullu Dussehra at Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Canada, bringing the rich cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh to a prominent international stage. Supported by more than 35 Indo-Canadian organizations, the festive gathering brought together members of the Indian diaspora, community leaders, and distinguished guests, highlighting the growing global influence and talent of the Himachali community worldwide.
Virtually addressing the event, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu praised the diaspora for preserving Indian traditions across borders. In a special video message, he emphasized that Dussehra serves as a universal symbol of the triumph of good over evil, reminding everyone to fearlessly uphold righteousness and truth. He commended the HPGA for its dedicated efforts in uniting the diaspora, promoting state tourism, and building strong cultural bridges between Himachal Pradesh and Canada.
The event featured dynamic cultural performances, including traditional Naati and Jhamakra folk dances alongside a vibrant presentation of Ram Leela. Guests were also introduced to authentic Himachali hospitality and flavours through a serving of traditional Himachali Dham. Hosted by Canadian Member of Parliament Marie-France Lalonde and acknowledged with warm wishes from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, the celebration reaffirmed the commitment of the HPGA Board of Directors—Bhagya Chander, Arun Chauhan, Vivek Nazer, Sanjeev Thakur, Ashu Kalia, and Poonam Guleria—to showcase Himachali values and traditions on the global stage.
