Prepare for the ultimate test of grit and endurance as the 13th edition of MTB Shimla, powered by HARTEX, kicks off from October 23–25. Organised by the Himalayan Adventure Sports & Tourism Promotion Association (HASTPA) in association with Himachal Tourism, this year’s high-octane mountain biking spectacle features a massive 130-kilometer Himalayan trail, an exhausting 3,800 meters of elevation gain, and a record ₹8 lakh prize purse.

Returning to its core Cross Country Marathon (XCM) roots, the race brings together cyclers from 20 cities—including nine national podium holders. The demanding track is 90% off-road, guiding riders across forest paths, rock gardens, narrow singletracks, and stream crossings. For the first time in event history, gravel bikes have also been officially permitted to compete.

The action begins on October 24 with Stage 1: ‘The Flight of the Pheasant’—a 55 km grind with 1,780 meters of climbing starting at the Kufri Wildlife Sanctuary and passing through Patgyaar, Mundaghat, and Fagu before finishing at Dak Bangla. On October 25, riders face Stage 2: ‘The Cedar Wreath’, a 48 km loop traversing Charabra, Mashobra, Purani Koti, and Bekalthi. The field highlights a remarkable generational span, featuring Shimla’s own 11-year-old Kaarik Sharma as the youngest rider and 68-year-old Maheshwar Dutt as the veteran competitor.

Beyond the competitive thrill, the event places a vital focus on road safety through a partnership with Royal Enfield Social Mission’s Helmets for India initiative. ASP Shimla, Ms. Mehar Panwar, joined organisers to emphasize responsible riding and helmet awareness. Supported by partners like Radkaat, Big FM, SJVN, AU Small Finance Bank, HPDT, and Pranah, HASTPA continues its mission since 2005 to position Himachal Pradesh as a premier global hub for eco-tourism and mountain biking.
