Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania on Wednesday praised the active and constructive participation of women MLAs during the ongoing budget session and announced the creation of a “Best MLA Parliamentary Award” to acknowledge exemplary performance in the Assembly.

Speaking in the House, Pathania highlighted the impressive contributions of first-time legislators such as Anuradha Rana and Kamlesh Thakur, noting that their articulate speeches, engagement in debates, and overall involvement demonstrate a vibrant democratic environment.

He said the award would assess members based on debate quality, involvement in discussions, and attendance, with the goal of promoting high standards of parliamentary conduct and meaningful deliberation.

Citing earlier examples, the Speaker mentioned that senior MLAs Mukesh Agnihotri and Asha Kumari had previously been recognised for their consistent participation and strong debating abilities.

Pathania added that performance reports compiled during Assembly sessions would guide the selection process, ensuring a transparent and objective evaluation. He expressed confidence that the initiative would inspire legislators across all parties to engage more actively in legislative affairs and uphold the dignity of the House.
