IIAS Shimla Hosts Seminar on Viksit Bharat 2047

The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Rashtrapati Nivas, Shimla, today inaugurated a two-day national seminar on “Viksit Bharat 2047: Challenges and Opportunities,” bringing together leading academicians and experts from across the country to discuss India’s long-term development vision.

The seminar aims to encourage interdisciplinary dialogue on holistic, inclusive, and sustainable development pathways aligned with the national goal of a developed India by 2047.

At the inaugural session, Convener and Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Ganga Singh University, Bikaner, Prof. Manoj Dixit, presented the conceptual framework of the theme, highlighting key focus areas such as governance, education, environment, social inclusion, and economic growth.

Delivering the keynote address, Prof. R. K. Mishra of the University of Lucknow discussed the challenges and opportunities in India’s development journey and stressed the need for coordinated and forward-looking policy approaches.

The session was presided over by IIAS Director Prof. Himanshu Kumar Chaturvedi, who described “Viksit Bharat 2047” as a comprehensive national vision extending beyond economic growth to include cultural values, intellectual traditions, and social harmony. He emphasized the role of research institutions in shaping informed and inclusive policymaking through sustained academic engagement.

The inaugural session included a welcome address by IIAS Secretary Mehar Chand Negi and was moderated by Public Relations Officer Dr. Akhilesh Pathak, who also proposed the vote of thanks.

The seminar will continue with thematic sessions covering the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat, economic perspectives, education reforms, environmental sustainability, governance, and policy frameworks. The second day will focus on traditional Indian perspectives on development and administrative reforms.

The event has drawn participation from vice chancellors, senior academicians, and experts from institutions including Gujarat University, OP Jindal Global University, Himachal Pradesh University, and representatives from various national bodies, making it a significant platform for policy-oriented academic exchange.
