The Annual Sports Day is a major and much anticipated event of any school, Bishop Cotton School, Shimla celebrated their Junior School Sports Day – 2014, at the school ground in a spirited atmosphere. The Chief Guest for the event was Sr. Stephanie Rodrigues, Principal, Loreto Covent Tara Hall School, who declared the meet open by unfurling the flag. Parents turned up in huge number to support and boost the morale of their children.
The Sports Day commenced with the Balloon Race by the children of The Learning Centre. The winners of the race were – 1st Parul; 2nd Pavan; 3rd Satish. Then came the interesting and fun Mask Race by the tiny tots of the Non-Formal School which was won by – 1st Komal; 2nd Gopal; 3rd Sabhya. Little Ones munching away their biscuits ran to the finishing line in the Biscuit Race. The following were the first one to do so – 1st Natasha; 2nd Mamta; 3rd Disha.
The children hopped all the way to the finishing line in the Frog Race. The little ones were filled with enthusiasm as the parents cheered loudly for them. Winners of the race were – 1st Aman; 2nd Pavan; 3rd Mahima. Tiny tots of Class 3rd learnt how to balance a lemon on a spoon in the Lemon and Spoon Race. The proud winners were – 1st Kalash Aggarwal; 2nd Swaraj Chabra; 3rd Atritra Paul. Then the little boys of Class 3rd gathered their energy for the Ball in the Basket in which they tried to put all the balls in one basket. The winners were as follows – 1st Aradhya Aggarwal and Kabir Ghezta; 2nd Manv Rawat and Purab Rajta; 3rd Vikhyat Kapoor and Gurroop Singh Bhathal.
The next race filled the hearts of the students of 3rd Class with excitement as they had to Burst the Balloons. The following were the first ones to reach the finishing line – 1st Himanshu Jaiswal; 2nd Shaan; 3rd Pankaj.
The whole atmosphere was filled with a competitive spirit as the students of four Houses – Rivaz, Ibbetson, Lefroy, Curzon – respectively, started shouting slogans as it was time for Inter-House Relay Races for 3rd, 4th and 5th Classes. The winners in different categories were following

The Karate Teacher Dharmender Thakur came up to demonstrate some of his extraordinary karate skills. After the remarkable display of Martial Arts, students of classes 3rd, 4th and 5th performed a beautiful display with colourful dumb bells.
Then the boys from middle school proved their agility and flexibility through a fantastic display of gymnastics. The junior school kids showcased their strength throughout the tough Tug of War competition between Ibbetson and Lefroy House. Strength, endurance and determination to win were seen on both sides. Much to the joy of Lefroy House students their team emerged victorious. The Athletic meet came to an end with the March Past by the four Houses led by their respective House Heads.
A feeling of excitement pervaded the air as the prize distribution ceremony commenced. The lucky winners celebrated their victory joyously when they received their certificates and cups from the Chief Guest.
Chief Guest Sr Stephanie praised the hard work put in by children and said, “I am surprised to see such young boys being so disciplined. I feel very blessed to be among such beautiful kids and I thank Mr and Mrs Robinson for giving me this opportunity to be a part of such a spectacular event. I want to congratulate all the participants for performing exceptionally well. All the students have shown true sportsman spirit which is the most important thing in making Athletic Meet a success. I thank all parents for being here for their children and being a massive support for them.”
Headmaster, Christopher Robinson congratulated the teachers, Head of Junior School, Dorothy Robinson and students by saying that “The Junior School faculty has been working very hard from last two months to make this event a success. I thank the students for putting the most wonderful show for us this morning. I express gratitude towards the parents who have come from far off places in order to boost the confidence of their children.”
