Strengthening India’s push toward self-reliance in high-end medical equipment, the Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science & Technology (DST) has partnered with Karnataka-based Panacea Medical Technologies Pvt. Ltd. to develop and commercialize an advanced indigenous 32-slice Computed Tomography (CT) scanner.
Known for its expertise in radiotherapy and radiology solutions, Panacea Medical Technologies is expanding its portfolio into advanced diagnostic imaging. The new project encompasses the complete design, engineering, and deployment of a 32-slice CT scanner tailored for diverse clinical applications. CT scanners rely on rotating X-ray systems and digital detectors combined with complex computer algorithms to produce detailed cross-sectional images of internal body structures, demanding extreme engineering precision and rigorous calibration for patient safety.
India’s diagnostic imaging sector is experiencing a surge in demand, fueled by expanding healthcare infrastructure and the growing need for timely, accurate detection of chronic conditions. Domestic manufacturing of such critical medical machinery is vital to cutting down dependence on imported technologies and making advanced healthcare more affordable and accessible nationwide. Under the government’s flagship Make in India initiative, medical devices remain a top-priority sector.
TDB Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak noted that developing a domestic CT scanner aligns seamlessly with the national vision of strengthening high-end manufacturing. He emphasized that TDB’s backing aims to empower Indian enterprises to innovate, meet domestic healthcare demands, and capture global market opportunities. Representatives of Panacea Medical Technologies expressed gratitude for the board’s pivotal support, stating the collaboration will significantly accelerate India’s diagnostic manufacturing capabilities.
