Students from the Social Work department at Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), in collaboration with the Department of Public Administration, Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), and Students for Development (SFD) Himachal Pradesh, organized a high-impact hygiene awareness drive in Boileauganj, Shimla. The campaign, led by Prof. Shashi Kant Sharma (Chairman, Department of Sociology & Social Work), aimed to educate slum dwellers on personal hygiene, sanitation, and health awareness.

Hygiene Drive Highlights

🔹 Hand-Washing Awareness for Children: HPU students conducted live demonstrations on proper hand-washing techniques to promote hygiene and prevent diseases.
🔹 Say No to Open Defecation & Tobacco: Volunteers educated residents about the dangers of open defecation and the harmful effects of tobacco consumption.
🔹 Essential Supplies Distribution: Daily-use hygiene products were distributed to slum dwellers, reinforcing the importance of cleanliness.
🔹 Vocal for Local Initiative: Faculty and staff members purchased locally crafted brooms made from date palms, promoting indigenous products and rural livelihoods.

Impact & Community Engagement

Dr. Deepak Sharma (Assistant Professor, CDOE) and Dr. Anupama Bharti (Assistant Professor, Sociology & Social Work) highlighted the transformative impact of this initiative, encouraging students to take social responsibility while empowering local communities.

HPU remains committed to fostering sustainable change, bridging the gap between academia and social impact. This initiative sets a powerful example of youth-led action in promoting healthier and cleaner living conditions.
