Quantum Research Push : 23 Institutions Get Approval

The government has approved setting up quantum teaching laboratories in 23 academic institutions across India under the National Quantum Mission, with proposals from around 100 more institutions currently under review to boost research and training in quantum technologies.

The announcement was made during a meeting of science ministry secretaries chaired by Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh. The meeting reviewed key scientific programmes and emphasized stronger coordination among science departments to support innovation and research.

Officials also discussed preparations for the India International Science Festival 2026, proposed to be held in Pune, and reviewed outcomes of the RISE Conclave organized by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in Chennai.

Preparations for National Technology Day celebrations on May 11 were also discussed. A major technology exhibition is planned at Bharat Mandapam from May 11–13, where research organisations and startups will showcase innovations.

Updates on upcoming space missions, including the next Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle launch and a new navigation satellite for the Navy, were also reviewed.
