The 27th Annual Sports and Duty Competition of the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department kicked off with great enthusiasm in Rampur, inaugurated by Kehar Singh Khachi, Vice Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Forest Development Corporation. Speaking at the event, Khachi highlighted that under CM Sukhu’s leadership, the state is steadily moving toward its goal of becoming self-reliant by 2030. He noted that the Forest Department’s eco-tourism initiatives are playing a key role in boosting the local economy and appreciated the dedicated efforts of the department’s staff in driving these sustainable initiatives forward.
Emphasizing environmental conservation, Khachi announced the state government’s ambitious target to expand Himachal’s green cover to 32 percent by 2030 through extensive plantation drives. He stressed that forest personnel bear a crucial responsibility in safeguarding natural resources to achieve this goal. Additionally, he noted that the three-day competition serves as an ideal platform for both administrative officers and field staff to step away from routine duties, showcase their athletic talents, and foster camaraderie.
The opening ceremony featured a traditional march-past salute received by the chief guest, followed by all participants taking a collective pledge for a Drug-Free Himachal Pradesh. Competition Chairman C.B. Tashildar and DCF Gurharsh Singh welcomed the attendees, which included senior officials such as PCCF Wildlife Alok Nagar and CCF Abhilash Damodharan. The event brings together over 1,000 sports participants competing across 124 distinct events in 32 different sports disciplines.
